The Knockout Paintings (Imaginative)

Have you ever been blown away by a painting when you stand right in front of it? To me it's happened almost countlessly
but only a few events can be recalled thereafter so I consider only these paintings in my memory as master pieces.
A funny thing of this summer is that I'm more easily captivated by paintings than any other arts (visual 2D + 3D, films, architecture, performance, music, etc..) and these two paintings really caught my eyes.

Cy Twombly (American, b. 1928), Untitled VII from Bacchus Series (Actually I saw Untitled V), 2005, Oil or aclyric on canvas, 128" x 195"
His 80th anniversary retrospective is now going on at the Tate Modern, UK till September 14.

Jean-Frederic Schnyder (Swiss, b. 1945), Dritschi und Tinley schauen den Niesen, 1988, Oil on canvas, 12" x 8.5"
!! Thanks millions to my friend..!!, who brought my attention to this almost self-taught artist.. I immediately ordered a catalog of his past exhibit. Interesting artist..

Honestly speaking, I have encountered with the paintings above through their reproduction postcards so I haven't seen the original works yet.. Ha ha. I will look forward to seeing them someday in person!

Art Eastward: Queens

There are only three stops I sometimes make for art in Queens: PS1, Sculpture Center and Queens Museum.
I had no idea until I received a reminder of the new exhibition's opening at Y Gallery, located off Nothern Boulevard in Jackson Heights and my friend and I found the space after about 15 minutes walk from the 7 train stop, 82nd Street.

They had a room-sized installation work by the Mexican artist Teresa Margolles having a large square canvas and a
light beige color carpeted floor. The gallery curator Ms. Cecilia Jurado (next to the canvas in the photo) explained us that the stains on the canvas were actually blood extracted from the street in Mexico. The artist addresses the current drug-related violence in the country in her work. More info: http://www.ygallerynewyork.com/01exhibit.htm
I liked the space so well as the interaction between the blood stained canvas and seemingly a square drainage on the floor
(shown partially in the photo). Looking forward to seeing more exhibits over there.
